PRIMA

Artificial Intelligence solutions

The “PRIMA” Project

Revelis has developed “PRIMA,” a real-time platform for the ingestion, monitoring, and analysis of wildfires. Its goal is to provide comprehensive and real-time decision support for wildfire management by integrating multi-source data, advanced models, and intuitive visualization tools. The platform will help improve prevention, rapid response, and post-fire management, reducing the impact of wildfires on the environment and society.

Forecasting and Propagation

Advanced simulation of wildfire propagation in real time, integrating live hydro-meteorological data and predictive models.

Satellite Monitoring

Timely detection of thermal anomalies using satellite data (Meteosat), with immediate alert generation and continuous monitoring of fire evolution.

Post-Fire Analysis and Monitoring

Rapid processing of multispectral images (satellite, drones, LiDAR) to assess fire severity, monitor natural regeneration, and analyze the structure of affected land areas.

The Use Case

PRIMA is an AI-powered platform for wildfire monitoring and forecasting. It uses big data to monitor fires, integrating various data sources—such as satellite imagery, drone data, and ground sensors—with meteorological models and AI algorithms.

This enables a comprehensive and accurate view of the situation, prediction of fire risk, automatic detection of active hotspots, estimation of flame intensity and spread, real-time alert generation, and support for operational decision-making.

The state of the art in wildfire management increasingly involves the use of innovative technologies such as satellite and drone remote sensing, predictive modeling, integrated platforms, and artificial intelligence.

The goal is to enhance wildfire monitoring, forecasting, and management—both in real time and in the post-fire phase.
The system is based on three interconnected software modules:
Forecasting and Propagation, Satellite Monitoring, Post-Fire Analysis and Monitoring.

“Forecasting and Propagation” Module

This module uses real-time hydro-meteorological data and predictive models to simulate wildfire evolution. It includes automatic data acquisition, geo-referenced simulation, 2D/3D visualization of the fire front, and generation of analytical reports. The goal is to provide fast and accurate decision support for wildfire prevention and containment.

“Satellite Monitoring” Module

This module processes data from Meteosat satellites and other sources to detect thermal anomalies indicative of active fires. Alerts are transmitted in real time through various channels. The platform also supports continuous monitoring and geo-referenced event visualization on maps, integrating data into an effective environmental surveillance system.

“Post-Fire Analysis and Monitoring” Module

This module analyzes multispectral imagery to assess fire severity, monitor vegetation regrowth, and study changes in land use. It provides thematic maps and indicators useful for planning recovery and prevention interventions, contributing to the sustainable management of affected areas.

Innovation Plan

The PRIMA project is structured into four main work packages (WPs):

WP0: General Coordination

This activity aims to coordinate project tasks, ensure adherence to timelines, and meet administrative requirements.

WP1: Requirements Analysis and System Architecture Design

This activity focuses on defining the functional and non-functional requirements of the platform and designing the overall system architecture.

WP2: Development and Implementation of Software Modules

This activity involves the development and integration of the software components of the PRIMA platform.

WP3: Validation and Testing in an Operational Environment

This activity focuses on validating and testing the platform in real-world operational scenarios, gathering and analyzing user feedback, and ensuring PRIMA is effective, reliable, and ready for large-scale deployment.
